Shared Space, Shared Responsibility
Field observation · Service improvement
A one-night stay in a newly opened women-only hostel became an exploration of how small design decisions shape shared-space behaviour.
Starting point
A one-night stay in a newly opened women-only hostel prompted a closer look at shared space. The experience raised a practical question: how much can small design and service decisions influence the way people use a place together?
What interested me
Shared spaces depend on more than rules. Layout, visibility, storage, cues and everyday maintenance can all shape whether responsibility feels clear or easy to overlook. The field note treats the stay as an observation rather than formal user research.
Scope
This concise public version records the question and the lens behind it. It does not claim tested proposals, measured impact or findings beyond the available observation.
